How an Instagram QR code works
Instagram is selected on this page, so you only type your handle. Enter @yourname or yourname; the leading @ is removed, spaces and slashes are dropped, and the code holds the public profile address https://www.instagram.com/yourname/. Pasting a full profile link that starts with https:// is accepted as it is, so a link copied from the app works too.
On scan, the phone shows the address and opens it. If the Instagram app is installed, the system usually hands the link to the app and lands on your profile with the follow button in view. Without the app, the profile opens in the browser, where visitors can still see posts and your bio.
The code is static: it contains only the address, nothing is stored on this site to make it work, and it never expires. If you rename your account, instagram.com/yourname changes with it and printed codes stop working, so pick a handle you plan to keep before you print.
Where it helps
- Business cards for photographers, stylists, makers and anyone whose portfolio lives on Instagram.
- Table tents and the back of a menu, inviting guests to tag the restaurant in their photos.
- Shop windows, packaging and thank-you cards in online orders, turning buyers into followers.
- Event signage and photo backdrops, where guests want to find the official account quickly.
Tips before you print
- Scan the code yourself and check that it lands on your profile, not a similar handle. A missing letter leads to someone else's account or an error page.
- Keep the code pointed at the profile, not at a single post. Posts age; your profile keeps every new one.
- Add a short line under the code, such as “Follow us on Instagram”, and your handle in text, for people who prefer to search.
- Make the code at least 2 cm wide on a card and larger on signs read from a distance. Print sheet / PDF gives you an A4 version with a headline.
